GO HITTING CHALLENGE

OFFICIAL
RULES

How every event is set up, filmed and scored, plus who can play, how prizes work and how we protect hitters' privacy.

1. The basics

The Go Hitting Challenge is a free monthly skill competition for baseball and fastpitch softball hitters, run by the American Hitting Association (AHA), a brand of Hitting Universe, LLC, 5904 N 83rd St, Scottsdale, AZ 85250 ("the AHA"). No purchase or payment is ever required to enter or win, and buying anything does not improve your chances.

Each challenge month runs from the 1st at 12:00 a.m. to the last day at 11:59 p.m. Arizona time. December 2026 is a Preseason month. Results Day for video-verified events is within the first 7 days of the next month.

2. Who can play

  • Hitters age 7 and up living in the United States, including college, adult and masters players.
  • Accounts belong to a parent or legal guardian, or to an athlete who is 18 or older. A parent or guardian must create the account and agree to these rules for any hitter under 18.
  • Age groups use the age the hitter turns in the challenge year: 7–8, 9–10, 11–12, 13–14 and 15–18, plus three adult divisions: College (19–22), Adult (23–39) and Masters (40+). The December Preseason counts as the next year.
  • Baseball and fastpitch softball are separate divisions. A hitter picks one sport per profile.
  • Employees of Hitting Universe, LLC and their immediate families can play for fun but can't win prizes.

3. Scoring: total bases

Every event pays out in total bases (TB), up to 40 TB per event. A hitter's Go Hitting Rank for the month is the total of their best result in each of the six events, out of 240. Each event also has its own board. Skipping an event is allowed; it just scores 0.

4. Exit Velo (tee · on video)

SetupBall on a tee at a comfortable middle-of-the-zone height. Hit into a net or onto a field. Measure with a Pocket Radar, HitTrax, Rapsodo, Blast-compatible ball sensor or another radar, set up the way its maker says to measure exit velocity.
Reps5 swings. The hardest reading counts.
ScoringYour best mph sets your place on the Exit Velo board. Toward your Go Hitting Rank it scores against the AHA Hitting Standards for your age group: below On Pace 10 TB, On Pace 20 TB, All-Star 30 TB, Elite 40 TB. College (19–22) uses the college targets. Adult and Masters use provisional targets (On Pace / All-Star / Elite): Adult baseball 78 / 86 / 94 mph, Masters baseball 68 / 76 / 84, Adult fastpitch 62 / 70 / 78, Masters fastpitch 52 / 60 / 68. AHA may adjust provisional targets after the Preseason.

5. Oppo Line Drive (tee · on video)

SetupTee on the outer third of the plate, set back so contact happens even with or slightly behind the front hip, at belt height. Net: tape a 3 ft × 3 ft target box on the opposite-field half of the net, centered at the hitter's chest height. Field: mark the opposite-field third of the outfield with cones.
Reps10 swings.
Each swingHome run, 4 TB: hard line drive into the target (net) or into the opposite-field third on a line (field).
Double, 2 TB: line drive to the opposite side that misses the target.
Single, 1 TB: hard ground ball or fly ball to the opposite side.
Out, 0: pulled, up the middle on a field, foul, pop-up, swing and miss, or hitting the tee.
ScoreTotal bases, 0–40.

6. Round the World (tee · on video)

SetupFive tee spots, two swings each, in this order: inside (belt high, out in front), middle (belt high, even with the front foot), away (belt high, deeper), up (letters high, middle), down (knee high, middle). Hit into a net or onto a field.
Reps10 swings (5 spots × 2).
Each swingHome run, 4 TB: a line drive hit where that pitch should go. Inside to the pull side, middle up the middle, away to the opposite field, up on a line (not a fly), down on a line (not a grounder).
Double, 2 TB: a line drive, wrong direction.
Single, 1 TB: hard ground ball or fly ball in the right direction.
Out, 0: pop-up, weak contact, foul, swing and miss, or hitting the tee.
ScoreTotal bases, 0–40.

7. Filming a proof clip

  • One continuous take with no cuts, edits, slow motion or filters, filmed in the challenge month.
  • At the start, the hitter says their first name and the month on camera.
  • Film from the side or from behind, far enough back to see the hitter, the tee and where every ball goes. For Exit Velo, the radar or HitTrax reading must be readable for every swing (show the screen after each swing if needed).
  • The number or total bases you enter must match the clip. Entered scores count right away. Before prizes, an AHA coach watches the winners' clips to confirm them. A clip that's unclear, edited, doesn't match the score or doesn't follow the setup can be corrected or removed, and the next hitter moves up.
  • You can submit more than once a month; your best checked result counts.

8. The three games

Spin Read20 flashes of a spinning ball; call the spin. Right answers shorten the next flash, misses lengthen it. Score = your average flash over the last 8, in milliseconds (lower is better). 70 ms or faster = 40 TB; 600 ms = 4 TB.
Where Will It Be?The pitch disappears partway to the plate; tap where it crosses the zone. Scored on how close your taps land and how early you can read it.
Jump Reads (baseball)20 reps as a runner at first: GO when the pitcher goes home, BACK on a pickoff. Scored on the jump and the read.
Early Recognition (fastpitch)20 pitches; the ball shows for the first third of its flight, then you call the pitch. Scored on accuracy.
  • Up to 3 scored rounds per game per day (Arizona time). Your best round of the month counts. Warm-ups are unlimited and don't count.
  • Rounds are scored on the AHA's server from the round it gave you, not on your device. Rounds that look impossible (for example, finished faster than the game can be played, or instant answers on every rep) don't rank and may be reviewed.
  • The hitter must play their own rounds. No help, bots or scripts.

9. Prizes

  • Each month, the top Go Hitting Rank in each age group and sport wins an AHA Outfitters prize (for example a hat, shirt or other AHA gear). Each sport also has an Improvement Champion: the biggest rise in Go Hitting Rank from the previous month, among hitters who played both months. Prize items may vary.
  • Ties go to the hitter with more events played, then the higher single-event total, then the earlier entry.
  • An age group needs at least 3 ranked hitters for a prize that month.
  • Winners are contacted at the account email after Results Day and must reply within 14 days with a US shipping address, or an alternate winner may be chosen. Prizes ship free to US addresses and can't be exchanged for cash.
  • A parent or guardian accepts any prize for a hitter under 18.

10. Privacy

  • Leaderboards show only first name, last initial and state. Never a full name, school, team, photo or video.
  • We store the account email, and for each hitter: first name, last initial, state, sport, birth year and bats. No full birth date.
  • Proof clips are private. They are only seen by the AHA coach who checks them, and are deleted within 90 days after Results Day. Removing a hitter deletes their scores and clips.
  • We use your email only for sign-in codes, challenge results and prize notices, unless you also join the AHA Dugout Report. See the Privacy Policy.

11. Fair play

The AHA may remove scores, disqualify hitters or close accounts for cheating, fake or reused clips, harassment, or breaking these rules. Decisions on scoring and eligibility are final. The AHA may update these rules between months, and will post changes here before the month they apply to. Void where prohibited.
